Palm Beach
Did you know that Palm Beach, Florida is home to at least 30 billionaires? Palm Beach has a long history of welcoming guests to its tropical barrier island. The city was established in 1872 and, just a few years later, the first resort on the island was built. It was marketed as a respite from the brutal northern winters and a place where the rich and famous could bask in like company. That air of exclusivity remains. Today, Palm Beach is home to world-class restaurants, upscale shopping districts, and several posh, oceanside resorts.
Palm Beach may have started as a wintertime retreat for northerners to escape the snow and cold, but it is now a year-round destination, although November through April is still the busy season. More than seven million visitors visit Palm Beach every year.
Palm Beach is located on Florida's Atlantic coast, roughly 70 miles north of Miami. Some of its close neighbors are cities with similar reputations, including Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Pompano Beach. About 9,000 residents call Palm Beach their permanent home, though far more spend a large portion of the year here as semi-permanent residents.
Palm Beach International Airport is just a few miles away in West Palm Beach. In addition, the Palm Beach County Park/Lantana Airport is just over four miles away in Lake Worth, the North Palm Beach County General Airport is five miles away in West Palm Beach, the Palm Beach County Glades Airport is four miles away in Pahokee, Pompano Beach Airpark is a little more than four miles away in Pompano Beach, and the William P. Gwinn Airport is four and a half miles away in Jupiter.
Palm Beach Attractions
In addition to a swath of shining beaches, Palm Beach offers an array of attractions for guests with refined tastes. Exclusive resorts, spas, art galleries, top-notch restaurants, and swanky boutiques dot the island. A top attraction is the Flagler Museum, which was Henry Flagler's Gilded Age estate. Be sure to stop by the Mediterranean-inspired Rosemary Square, rent a yacht to spend the day on the ocean, or take a walking tour and admire the million-dollar homes.
